Artist Guidelines

Tips for the best results

What to Upload

  • Children's drawings and paintings — Crayon, marker, colored pencil, finger paint, watercolor, or any medium your child uses.
  • Clear, well-lit photos — Lay the artwork flat, use even lighting, and avoid shadows or glare for the best transformation.
  • Single artwork per photo — Crop the photo to show one piece of artwork. Multiple drawings in one photo may produce unexpected results.

What NOT to Upload

  • No photos of children or people. Our service is for artwork only. Photos containing people will be rejected.
  • No copyrighted material — Do not upload traced or copied images from books, TV shows, or other artists' work.
  • No offensive content — Artwork depicting violence, hate speech, or inappropriate content is not permitted.
  • No photographs or digital art — The service is optimized for hand-drawn children's artwork. Photos of landscapes, objects, or digital illustrations will not produce good results.

Photo Tips for Best Results

  • Use natural daylight — Near a window works great. Avoid direct sunlight which creates harsh shadows.
  • Shoot from directly above — Hold your phone parallel to the artwork to avoid perspective distortion.
  • Fill the frame — Get close enough that the artwork fills most of the photo, but keep all edges visible.
  • Use a plain background — Place the artwork on a white or neutral surface so edges are clearly defined.
  • Check the file size — Photos must be JPEG or PNG format, under 5 MB. Most smartphone photos meet this requirement.

Choosing a Style

  • Watercolor — Best for: drawings with lots of color, nature scenes, animals, and family portraits. Produces soft, dreamy illustrations.
  • Comic Book — Best for: action scenes, superheroes, vehicles, and bold drawings with strong outlines. Produces vibrant, dynamic illustrations.
  • Dr. Seuss — Best for: imaginative scenes, made-up creatures, and whimsical drawings. Produces fantastical, exaggerated illustrations.

About the Transformation

Crayonicle preserves the original composition, characters, and layout of your child's artwork. It enhances the visual quality by adding the characteristics of the chosen style (textures, shading, color depth, and line refinement) while keeping the creative essence of the original drawing intact. Every child's imagination is unique, and we celebrate that!
